Especially somethin' sweet, amiright?
I baked a batch of my snowball cookies (You may know them as Russian Tea cakes, or Mexican Wedding cakes.....yummy by any name.) late in the evening, this past Saturday night, because I was feeling like having a cuppa hot cocoa, and it sounded like the perfect thing to go with it.
Do you do things like that? Decide to bake a batch of something at...oh, 10:45 or so at night, because it just sounds so satisfying?
Okay, maybe I am in the minority here, but I tend to get a sort of second wind in the evenings, and when I do, you just never know what kind of activity I might decide to do. I will often start a craft project, clean out a drawer or closet, or, as I did last Saturday, I might decide to bake something.
Friends who know me well can confirm this. (I often send one of my besties a quick photo text showing what I am working on in the evening, while she is curled up with her book in bed by 8:30 each evening.)
Aaaaanyway.
Ralph was driving back home from a ways out of town, and I was going to be up waiting for him to get home anyway, so when the cookie craving hit me, I didn't hesitate to grab the mixer and the cookie sheet.
By the time he pulled in the driveway, I had made my cookie dough, baked my little snowballs, and cleaned the kitchen. When Ralph got home, we enjoyed a perfect little midnight snack while we caught up on each other's evening.
Mmmm hmmm. These are the little moments that are what life is all about.
