Clothespins, balls of string, old tin baking molds, cups, dishes, alarm clocks, books with covers in certain colors, mirrors, old windows and shutters. The list of old items I collect is seemingly endless, and it appears that, without even realizing I am doing it, I am adding new collections to my home each time I go thrifting.
I realized yesterday while I was contemplating rearranging the things in my entertainment center bookcase thing-a-ma-jiggy that I have a lot more collections around my home than I had realized.
I love the personality collections add to a room. One rolling pin is a utilitarian kitchen tool, but an old crate (OH! Another thing I collect...) filled with rolling pins of different sizes and colors...well, now, that is interesting.
And cheap. (Which I love as well.)
All of my collections have happened serendipitously, and they are not limited to every day items. I also collect seasonal items. White faux pumpkins (I like that word faux so much better than fake.) for harvest time, stars for New Years Eve...I used to have an incredible collection of Santas, until my house size got smaller, and couldn't find a perfect place for them. I passed them on to one of my daughters at that point, so as to keep them in the family and I could still enjoy them.
What things do you collect that add personality, whimsy, interest, and a bit of history to your home?
