The guest bathroom in my cottage was pretty generic. And a bit outdated. The floor is a mocha and white vinyl, which I have to live with for the time being (and I am thankful that it is not one of those old typical 60's floors in olive green or harvest gold) The low vanity from the 60's is definitely not my favorite part of the room, but since I don't have money to change out the flooring or vanity at this point, I have no choice but to work with it. Here is the only "before" shot I have of the bathroom (it's really not horrible, just blah..):
On the plus side, the previous owners had made some attempts at updating. The walls had been done up with a sort of venetian plaster look, and painted mocha, which works with my color palate just perfectly. They also installed a ceiling light that has a fan hidden in it (I didn't even know these were out there for sale!) and a new light fixture above the funky plain piece of mirror that was tacked to the wall. (The blue glass globes need to go, but I haven't found any I like in my price range as of yet...)
All of this being said, there wasn't a whole lot I could do with the front bathroom for now, but I do have big plans way, way down the road. I have an old bow front dresser out in the garage that I want to paint up and turn into a vanity, along with a bowl sink on top, and I would love to install hardwood flooring in this bathroom. Oh, and beadboard. i love beadboard. Won't that be darling?
As I said this is way down the road. (Suddenly single budget which has grown far more challenging to work with the past month and a half, but that's another story) *sigh*
Anyway.
I am blooming where I'm planted and here's a peek at what I have done in the guest bath, with special thanks, once again to the Sewing Queen of northern Nevada. She took remnants of of fabric from the slipcovered chairs in the living room, and fashioned me the most fabulous shower curtain. Mocha checks. Gotta love 'em.
The future son-in-law hung a nice framed mirror (from...TJ Maxx) for me that I do still plan to paint and antique, just not quite sure what color yet. I moved the pot rack that was in the kitchen at my last house into the bathroom to hold towels (and carry out my "nesting" theme with a couple of nests) and threw down a rug...voila! The bathroom is a whole lot more functional and inviting, and I am pretty darned happy with it, as is, for now.
