I think I mentioned way back when that I traded my old
dining room
set for someone else's on Craigslist. (It was shortly after I moved
into my new cottage home, maybe last January?) Well, if I didn't here
is the
"short" version of the story:
Me, suddenly single, and moved to a new-to-me home. Everywhere I
turned I saw reminders of the life I used to have. I stared at a fairly
recently purchased dining room table and chairs, remembering holidays
and dinner parties. Fond memories, but far to painful right now.
Looking on Craigslist, I spotted an antique dining set for sale. I
had no money to buy it. No business even looking. I had this nearly new
set anyway, even if it did remind me of what's-his-name. (Keep in mind I was not myself at this point, and doing half baked things was par for the course at this time) What the heck, I emailed and asked for more photos. (long
story getting longer here- sorry 'bout that)
After emailing the gal back and forth many times, we discovered
that I had the set she just may be looking for. I took pictures of my
set after work that night, and along with a friend headed to this gal's
home. I took along one ladder back chair along for the ride, just in
case the photo peaked her interest.
Well, it did. The
next thing I knew, the gal, with 5 kids and hubby in tow, followed us home
with their set. They wanted mine! Within the span on an hour and a half
I had a charming antique set and had not. spent. a. dime. (And I didn't even have to pick it up!)
I love the set, with all it's charm. I had the badly
spotted up seats recovered to suit my new color scheme (neutral, to go
with many colors) as I shared a few days ago, and painted the chairs and the table base.Oh, and notice the darling rug? (mm hmmm, TJ Maxx again.)
I still plan to sand down the table top and stain it the color
of my hardwood floors, but with my Mother's day shindig coming up
tomorrow, I had to wait on that part. (and I am moving the chandelier
next week to be centered above the table, in front of the fireplace and
doorway.)
*sigh* All of my thrifted, traded finds are so, so perfect in my cottage dining room now. Can I work this suddenly single budget, or what?
