The big challenge for my daughter was the fact that, while she wanted to try a light colored slip-covered sectional, she has three dogs that all live inside and outside with her, so the thought of investing too much money in this was more than a little bit bit scary. (Who wants to be out $3,000 on a Pottery Barn sectional, only to find out after 23 months of use that the pups have created permanent paw prints everywhere, and daily doggie hair removal has become too much for you, but you paid a fortune so now you're stuck?)
After some debate, she came up with the perfect solution. We went to Ikea and got this little gem in the picture above. The complete and total steal of the century, delivered two days after she bought it. Oh, and it's comfy to sit on! We flopped on it Saturday evening to watch a movie, and it was fabulous. We discussed it and decided that, worse case scenario, if the idea of a light colored sofa turns out to be unwise in 3 years....not the end of the world, since the price was so affordable. Brilliant.
And, oh, just so cute.
I can now have my cake..er..sectional, and sofa too. All I have to do is pop over to my daughter's home for an evening of sofa sitting.

Please keep us updated on the quality of the sofa. This is the EXACT style I want, and with Ikea just down the road I have had my eye on this sofa. But... I've heard not so good things about the quality of upholstered furniture from Ikea.

Love it! I still have two of the Ektorp slip-covered sofas on my wish list!

I, too, am interested in the quality and also the COMFORT of this sectional. So please let us know what she thinks after she's had it awhile.

Hey Tracey - I love that sofa. I have heard the Ektorp series is VERY good quality and long lasting. Cindy (Romantic Home), Melaine (My Sweet Savannah) and Just Beachy are 3 blogs I read that all have these sofas and love them (and the quality). Also, Joni (Cote de Texas) had a recent post on the Ektorp pieces. And she is the queen of slipcovers.
I thought about the Ektorp loveseat for our sunroom, but we don't have IKEA here and I wasn't willing to drive 3 hours and pick up one. But I might have to make the drive now and check it out, I'm thinking of the ektorp jenny lind chair.
Good choice!

Your daughters sofa looks great! I've heard good things about them and I've wanted an Ektorp sofa forever but the nearest IKEA is 500 miles away! Have you seen the gray slips? I really like those, although the white would be my first choice, too. Will be anxious to see how it works for her.

It looks great! I remember reading about Cindy at Romantic Home getting hers with an extra slipcover and she loves her. Can't wait to see more updates!

I have that couch and 3 black dogs.
I bought 2 extra covers in the "as-is" section for under $20. looking for the black and white one for a "winter" change
I vacum it when there is fur on it (just pick up the vacuum and run it over the couch)
I also have 2 guazey window panels (Target Simply Shabby chic) that I tuck in and let the ruffle hang down that I throw in the was as needed.
I bought a thrift store otoman and made a white clip cover for it and together, it is a very comfy place to sit!
If needed s 'tide to go" wipe and a washcloth wipes up stains that don't require washing.
Don"t put them in the dryer though :)

Marshalls had some small-size throw quilts that I put on my sofa - sometimes the dirtiest part gets contained on the throw and that is easily tossed in the wash.
If it get too bad - I supposed you could extend the life further with a tea dye or other color dye??
It sure looks good!

What a beautiful room!! Can I ask where she got that rug seen in the picture? I'm on the hunt for one for my living room. Just gorgeous and so "homey" :)

The rug originally came from HomeGoods about 3 and a half years ago. It was in my dining room and now is at my daughters home.

This is exactly the sectional I want, but I'm not ready to purcase it. (Renovations!) I have seen two of these on craigslist in excellent condition for around $225. The condition of the slipcover does not concern me because you can buy the sectional slipcover for only $100 at IKEA! At this rate, one could simply recover when it's looking a bit worn.
