As I began writing this blog post, it occurred to me that I shared my love of vintage picnic baskets before with you...and when I checked, it was actually more than once here- last time, it was a few years ago..and before that, I first shared it...what feels like was a lifetime ago, (or..maybe...was it someone else's life?) back when I still thought I was June Cleaver.
Anyway.
My passion for vintage picnic baskets has turned out to a very good thing. The fact is, they are so pretty to look at, they never go out of style, and they store all sorts of things. I keep baking supplies like all of my cookie cutters, and fondant molds in one of them. I keep fabric in a couple of them. (No, I don't sew a lick, but I do re-cover things like cushions on piano benches and dining chairs)
Currently I keep part of my collection (ehem...yes, it is only a fraction of my collection....) on the landing of the stair area that leads downstairs.I think they look pretty danged cute here now, but I have rather big plans for them though, just as soon as I wrap up my turn doing the window at Camas Antiques, and I will then share the new look they will be sporting.
The reason I am sharing my collection once again is simply to remind you to think outside of the box when looking for storage ideas. This is especially good when space is at a premium. The only somewhat challenging part for me seems to be remembering what is in which basket, but labeled manila tags hung on each basket can help with that!

I love vintage picnic baskets. The ones you have are really colorful!

I love old picnic baskets and have a few that I, also, use for storage. The need for tags to label them is REAL....I had stored a few of my vintage tablecloths in one and for the life of me could not figure out where I had put them until one day I took the baskets down to dust and "lo and behold"........yes, must put tags on!

I have a picnic basket pillar in my house too. Full of storage. Thanks for the tag idea.

I recently started my own collection of picnic baskets with storage in mind! They really are geat. I love how they look on the landing - sometimes it's hard to find a convenient storage place for storage items.
cute cute. :)

Your collection is making mine look pretty puny.

I too have used my baskets for storage. I also needed a reminder of what was in each basket. I took a picture of the contents making sure that I could recognize the outside as well as the interior. You could prop it against the basket until it was imprinted on your brain Ha Ha attach it to a tag or use a file folder.
Just an idea

I love these picnic baskets. I have lots of them and use them for valuable storage space too.
They are wonderful!! They don't cost too much, they look wonderful and they are a great answer to keeping clutter organized but easy to get to.
They look wonderful stacked at the top of your stairs.

I have a thing for picnic baskets too. I've passed up the colored ones in the past, but now that I see yours, I wish I hadn't. Maybe I should go junking/antiquing tomorrow.

Love those! Can't wait to see what else you have planned for them! Love the tag idea, too, and I think I'll use it on my miles and piles of vintage suitcases that I never remember what lurks inside of!

Likewise! And I don't think I've ever actually used one for a picnic, 'cause they're so useful for cute and simple storage!

Very wonderful picnic baskets! I accrued some of my grandmother's old pieces of luggage and use those for storage. They aren't nearly as pretty as your baskets though. Now I want to hunt for some!
