Here is the finished vintage linen chest...at least I'm calling it finished for now. I am still debating on whether to add words on the front of each drawer, in a faded black print...maybe French words for tablecloths, napkins, bed linens? Or numbers, either written out in English or French, or simple numbers themselves...?
The reason I am not sure if it needs more detail work is that I am not sure I want to keep it in my booth space at Camas Antiques, let alone sell it. I am working on my fabulous workroom currently, and it could be an amazing addition to the room. It could hold papers, or fabrics, or who knows what all else, and looking spectacular all the while.
This is one of the challenges of being a professional junker. It's always the same...do I love it too much to sell it, or do I put it in the booth so my space looks fabulous, and I earn some good money? I am always torn.
Anyway.
I adore this piece. So versatile and functional and charming, even if it is missing one drawer and the cupboard doors. Perfect, in a tattered kind of beautiful way.

This piece is absolutely, positively charming and beautiful! If I was you, I would definitely move this beauty into my work space and enjoy it for years to come! Maybe I missed it, but where did you find it before you worked your magic on it?! It is so unique. Love.

This looks fantastic. I love the cut of the side of the drawers. French words or numbers should be fine in your workroom too> Perhaps a saying spaced down the drawers.

Ooh, I don't think I could sell such a fantastic piece of furniture! I love it! I have never seen one like it. I'm not sure I would have seen the potential with the drawer missing before your makeover. Do you have a before pic? Just beautiful!
Blessings!

I would SO keep that if I had the room. It's the most awesome, unique piece I've ever seen. Do you have a before picture of it? It's just amazing! And yes, I'd be storing all sorts of pretty things in it too and it would be visually pleasing. Nice find! Thanks for posting.

that is too cute...it would look great in a workroom, can't wait to see the new workroom once your finished.....

I would love to just follow you around. This is so great. Did you build the pullouts? Is there another post on the making of this and how to do it? This would be great in a workroom...so many ideas!

I believe I would have to keep it. It is so unique. It would look good with words on it, but looks great just as it is.
Posted by: Kim Nichols | April 13, 2010 at 05:33 AM
At least keep it until you're sure....one way or the other! How badly would you miss it and regret selling it? I feel the agony of your decision. I buy stuff at the thrift store that I know I can make money on if I'd put it on eBay, then wind up keeping it. Trouble is, now my house has TOO MUCH STUFF and I'm in the mood to get rid of it! I think I had a nightmare last night of my kids having to deal with all my stuff when I die!

I would have to keep this piece if it were me Tracey. It's unusual and it might be a long time before you came across another one to take its place.

my vote? keep it Tracey!
Posted by: Teemie | April 13, 2010 at 06:15 AM
Yes, you should definitely keep it and use it in your new workroom! With your luck, I'm sure that you can find something else to use in your booth.

Oh my goodness, that is an amazing piece! You might be able to sell it quickly but it would be next to impossible to find another piece like it...ummm...well, maybe not for you! You seem to be a magnet for amazing things! :) My vote is to keep it though!

Tracey, if you decide to sell it, I would love to buy it! I know, shipping, but perhaps PT town would make a good summer trip! It is purely devine! Where do you find such great stuff?
Posted by: Candy | April 13, 2010 at 07:01 AM
Keep it Tracey. It's far to beautiful to part with. Oh the amazing things you could do with it. Or...sell it to me!
Posted by: Elena | April 13, 2010 at 07:02 AM
Tracey!
Do not sell! You will regret it always....
...so pretty and versatile!
Enjoy it!

Oh my. Just perfect for my sewing room also. Love it. What's the french word for "stuff"?
Posted by: The Sewing Queen | April 13, 2010 at 08:28 AM
Don't sell it..it is wonderful. Would you share the painting process?
Posted by: Pat | April 13, 2010 at 09:15 AM
It is such a great piece, I wouldn't sell it even if you leave it in the booth. But even if you use it at home, I love the idea of French words on the drawers. If I had the room, I would love it for my sewin room.

If I were near I would buy it in a second. And it definitely needs words or numbers....AFTER you bring it home to keep! (Not before, or it will sell immediately!)--Lori

Its lovely as it is. No words, please. Keep it simple. You wont regret it.

Guurrrl you better keep that one! So amazingly beautiful!
Posted by: Barbara Brown | April 13, 2010 at 12:51 PM
I'd have to keep it! The chances of finding another if you changed your mind too late...next to nothing. It is exactly they kind of piece that would be functional and beautiful in a workroom! SAVE IT FOR YOURSELF...:-)

I adore this piece also! Keep it!
Posted by: Susan Daniel | April 13, 2010 at 02:32 PM
I would keep it, you just don't find pieces like that everyday!
Posted by: Jan LaFollette | April 13, 2010 at 03:11 PM
C'est magnifique!!!! :)
I see why you would want to keep it!
Posted by: Peg M. | April 13, 2010 at 05:34 PM
so beautiful Tracey - and like others have said, so many uses. rather than painting directly onto the wood, what about adhering some sort of large book-plates or the like. then you can switch out the labels with whatever you have in that spot. i'd hate to label it something you wouldn't be able to replenish. plus then, if it goes into your craft room, you can label it with whatever is in there.
have a wonderful evening !

That piece is gorgeous. It is too beautiful a piece to part with.
Posted by: Gail E | April 13, 2010 at 07:08 PM
Oh, I know what you mean... it can be so hard to part with things! I think your drawers would look fab with some of those metal tabs/plates that hold a slip of paper which you write on. I have seen them at some of the big craft stores. That would give it just a little bit of an industrial touch that so many love.
Posted by: Christi | April 13, 2010 at 09:21 PM
It's definitely a keeper. I like the idea of putting words/numbers on the front.

Oh my gosh, do not sell it. Do not. You will so regret it! That is just an amazing, amazing piece!
Posted by: Kim | April 14, 2010 at 12:34 PM
I say keep it for now, there may come a time when your ready to part with it and then it can always grace and beautify your booth space then.
Posted by: Jamie | April 15, 2010 at 05:56 AM
Keep it! It is wonderful! And when you tire of its look, add curtains to it! then when you tire of that, sell it! kaen...
