I've always and forever had a thing for table settings. It began with a love affair with dishes, and has branched off to vintage linens...(anything from tablecloths to napkins to cutwork doilies....) and then finally, on to serving pieces and flatware.
Oh, me oh my.
Over the past several months I've come across some charming old flatware pieces, and I have decided to group them into mismatched place settings to use for entertaining, or just for dining by myself. (Six of one style fork, six of another style spoon, etc...)
My latest find was just this past Sunday evening at a local thrift shop. I couldn't believe my eyes when I discovered them. There they were, six perfectly matched Rogers Silver soup spoons. The old, wonderful, big, perfectly round soup spoons that make eating a bowl of soup or chowder extra special. Oh, I had planned to put them in my booth space, but then, as I washed them and polished them, I realized that I had fallen in love with them, and decided, that, at least for now, they need to stay in my home.
*sigh* They are the perfect comfort accompaniment to comfort food, if that makes any sense.

It makes perfect sense. :) and I'm always looking for these at thrift stores too, though I have never scored. The thrill of the chase is fun too. Thanks for posting.

What a find! I don't know how you part with things for your booth :o) I'm afraid I'd become attached to everything and not want to sell it.

Total and complete sense! Love your soup spoons and can't blame you a bit for hanging on to them!

I love those old spoons and have several now. And I love the look of mismatched silver. Many of our tea rooms have everything mixed, a kind of fun elegance. I love to mix my few precious pieces of old family service with my rather plain silver.

I wish you would open an ebay store! Have you ever thought about that?

What a great find and yes, keep them for yourself. They will be a great addition to your placesettings. As a soup lover, that looks like the perfect soup spoon.

I love the soup spoons, and I'm constantly on the look out for them, too. You are so lucky!

Beautiful. I too collect odd pieces of flatware. Those spoons might have been made for 'cream soups'..as I had a set that looked like that. Oh the Victorians, they put the 'right tool for the right job' to work!

When my grandmother passed away the granddaughters went thru the house and chose things that they wanted. I picked up a couple of old knives that the silver plating was worn off. I use them and think of her when I do. Isn't old stuff Grand?!!

I agree. I have a set of my grammas silver. Sadly many pieces are missing but I kept them anyway. Theres enough for at least 6 servings plus a few extra things I could always mix and match with. I love the old stuff......it was just made so much nicer I think.
