I found a charming vintage hutch top a short while back, and I fell in love with the cottage look of the scalloped shelf edges. I painted it a weathered white and it now has a home above my master bathtub.
I think it adds some vintage charm to the otherwise modern room, with some of my favorite old photos and sweet old silver pieces. My two foot tall vintage tiered silver tray rounds out the tub area, filled with hand towels, bath sponges and soaps.
Now, every night I take my candle light bubble bath, enjoying the romantic vintage look of the re-purposed hutch-top of days gone by.
Once again, it's all about thinking outside the box.

What a great repurposing of the tiered tray. The hutch top would look great in any room, but certainly fills that empty space over the tub with style!

Very nice! I like that your tub is seperate from your shower. That way you have the space to decorate. I like your little sign too!

Good use of an old hutch.....but you can also add more usage by adding an extra board to the bottom...gaining another shelf. Just a thought!

That looks great! I just saw a silver tiered dish like that the other day and I didn't buy it! Now I wish I would have! You know what would look nice too...you could put a small spring tension rod across the bottom sides of the shelf and hang some vintage linens...just a thought!

love this but I had a thought - if you attach a dowel rod to the bottom you could hang some vintage hand towels from it...!

love the hutch there! My first thought was to get a thin tension rod and place it down low between the bottom sides and hang a couple of beautiful vintage tea towels! It's not something you might actually use in the tub, but again- it's about thinking out of the box here! Love it!

Great minds think alike! After I hit the "post" button I started to read the previous posts and see that many of your other fans had the same idea before I did! Sorry for the redundancy- but now I think ya GOTTA do it!

Wanted to say hi ...

Tracey, it's sometimes scarey, we have such parallel lives. I just happen to be redoing my bathroom and I've been looking for a small display shelf. All the new shelving looks too new for my vintage bathroom. Your little hutch display is exactly what I'm looking for! I'm off to start scouring craig's list and thrift stores!

Thinking inside the box is both mundane and boring!!!
A question for you - doesn't all of the moisture in your bathroom affect the silver?
While I do like the idea so many other commenters shared about a towel bar and hanging some vintage linens at the bottom of the hanging shelves .... a caution - make sure they don't hang so low that your always concerned about accidentaly splashing them.
