Late yesterday afternoon I was changing clothes after my first shift at the bank, and I was thinking about how blessed I am to have such a huge walk in closet in my new place. It's so large that it has two light fixtures in the ceiling, which, in a perfect world, I would change to two mini chandeliers, just for the sheer foofy-ness of it. (In fact, the pictures in this post only show a bit less than half of the closet)
Anyway.
It occurred to me that I hadn't shared one of the coolest little details in my new place. It's hidden from most anyone that might come to visit, inside my master bedroom closet. Actually, it's a feature that's in the other upstairs bedroom closet as well. (where my new office is now)
It's a window.
Mmm hmm. A nice, bright, sunny (when it's not cloudy in the Pacific Northwest) window that let's in light and I get a view of the trees.
It makes me smile.

How clever, a window in a closet. That is a dream closet for any lady.

Very nice! I'm jealous. I absolutely dream of redoing my closet some day. It's pretty big, but so messy and unorganized and catch-all. The task seems almost too daunting. Uggh!
Thanks for sharing! That is one nice closet/changing room. And, you're right, having a window in there is just fantastic!

I'll have to share that my great great grandfather's house is still standing and in great condition...the one and only closet in an upstairs bedroom has a window in it, facing west...now that was pretty ingenious in the late 1800's! Enjoy your new digs (O:

Lovely. You wear as much black, it seems, as I do. Anyway Costco has some great hangers that you might want to upgrade to. They are very thin but strong. They have a suede-like covering so that absolutely nothing slips from them. Being thinner they increase your closet space. I didn't believe it, but they do! Really, try them!

You're not kidding, it's a dream closet! I will not envy. I will not envy! My closet is in a '50's ranch. Nothing else to be said 'bout dat.

it's absolutely FABULOUS! :)

Oh my gosh how funny! I've been on an organizing my closet kick. Out with the hodge podge of different colored plastic hangers and in with those great new hangers that are carried at TJ's and other places. Here we have Big Lots though so I picked up many packages of matching hangers..10 for $4.00! Now all my hangers match. Do you think I need therapy? Well, the cost of the hangers is a lot cheaper. I was thinking the must have for in there is a new little chandelier. I don't have a window though...darn it.

Tracey... you have a lovely place to reside in and you seem to be enjoying it very much... I am so glad for that....

Tracey, the closet is fab. But what I want to know is: how do you stand at the bank in those shoes!?! They are DEFINITELY CUTE!! But your feet, Honey! You are going to wind up with neuromas like me if you're not careful! I stood in banks in heels (not nearly as high as yours) for 8 years and my feet are paying for it!
Posted by: Betsy Derr | January 21, 2010 at 07:58 AM
Becky I was thinking the same thing....the heels on those shoes could put someones eye out.
Tracey, I am just pea green with envy over your closet space. I don't even want to discuss the space that my husband and I have, its too depressing to think about.

Oh, I am surely envious of your closet! I merely DREAM of having a large, fabulous closet sometime before I die! I have never lived in a house where the "master" bedroom had a walk-in closet. I am so tired of my clothes being stuffed in and wrinkled because of it! You are lucky, and it's wonderful that you appreciate it so!

That is luxury...you deserve it!

OH! What a gorgeous closet. And, you've got it done so nicely, with baskets & such.
Incidentally, I'm drooling over your shoes :)

I think a closet window may be the ultimate luxury, followed closely by a window in the laundry room. And a built-in to hold shoes is a nice touch too.

Great closet! Love the size ~ love the window ~ love the red plaid shoes!!
: )

First, I'm drooling over your shoes and will be over today to borrow at least one pair!
Second, I can't stand how jealous I am about my old home every time you share something about it! You make it look so much better than I ever did and the closet space was and still is to die for. Love our new place, but can't believe the downgrade we made in closets and laundry room location.

I love closets with windows and I see about 8 pairs of shoes I'd like to have. The pair on the top are amazing. The heel is do die for.

A window in a walk-in closet is so perfect, sigh.
Now, you need a full length mirror so you can use your closet as a dressing room.

I had a window in my closet in our home when we lived in Georgia. I loved it. I love to let the light in, in any room.

This makes me laugh. I grew up in an old large farm house that had a little window in every closet (they were all walk-ins) and they didn't open. They were just there, probably for light, but my mother hated them. They would fade our clothes of course! So she put up these "lovely" black vinyl roller shade on every one of them. Funny. Wish I had a picture of those awful things. :-)

A closet like that would make me smile, too!
Enjoy!

Hey! You've got some fabby shoes, honey!! I love the idea of a window in the closet. A woman had to have designed that..a man would have not given it a second thought!! Thanks for sharing your beautiful new home.

Yep, your closet is drool-worthy but your shoe collection is to die for! I see several pair that I need....

Sorry. I just got here. I got distracted by the shoes!!
Posted by: Andrea | January 22, 2010 at 02:52 PM
Tracey, to be honest, I expected to see l-o-t-s more pairs of shoes seeings how you say your so crasy for them. I have three different friends that have no less than fifty pairs each. Honest!!!
We live in a very old farmhouse {our kitchen and bathroom were added on in the twenty's, had the pipes in the basement for the old gas lights till our house fire seven years ago ...} and it too has windows in the closets. I really like them. I found bonus uses for them on a couple of occasions when "the boys" were teens. You go in the closet shutting the door behind you and peek out the window ;-p

LOL! Oh, honey, thats only ONE area of the shoes! I have my dressy
shoes up on a top shelf in boxes and bags, my athletic shoes on the
rear wall, my slippers on the floor, and my summer shoes in a vintage
suitcase!!!!!!

We had a window in my daughters' closet once. It faded their clothes! It was cute, but actually seemed to increase the sun's power on the clothes that were directly in it's way. Wasn't such a cute idea, after all.

I am really looking forward to the renovation of my bedroom next week, now I have an idea what to do.
