I've always liked using cloth napkins. Even as a newlywed back in the 70's, I used cloth over paper table linens to save money. I love the look and feel of them, whether they are charming old vintage napkins, or newly made to coordinate with my tablescape by the Sewing Queen. Besides being good for our environment, they really make the table look so nice, and there is such a feeling of being pampered and spoiled- a feeling of living a truly charmed life.
I have amassed quite a collection of sweet vintage table linens that I am getting ready to take to Junkee later today....if I decide I can part with them.

I had to laugh reading your post today. While I love the look of cloth napkins, they really don't work when you have an 8 year old boy. This child can stain anything you put in front of him.
My husband and I were just talking this morning about loving the nice weather because the kid runs around in swim trunks only. Then he just needs to be hosed off every day or so. :D

I switched over to using cloth napkins all of the time when I saw a package of twelve of them at Home Goods and had an aha moment. I keep them in a square Longaberger Basket that I used to keep paper napkins in, so I fold them into squares. My washing machine is right next to the kitchen so I just add them to whatever wash I'm doing, I don't bother to press them unless company is coming. If I had small children I think I'd just use a patterned fabric that wouldn't show stains...I use white, that makes them bleachable, but I only do that every once in a while. I don't think we will ever go back to using paper.

I have started to use these too! I also stitch warm words on mine for a country feel since I decorate in country, I have finished 2 today that you can see on my blog!

Just yesterday I picked up a package of cloth napkins. They aren't exactly what I was looking for. They're just plain white and I wanted a lace edge, but they were a good deal.
I wish I wasn't on the other side of the country. I want so badly to be able to shop at Junkee. Ever thought of selling on Etsy? Then those of us on the east coast could share the vintage love...just a thought...dreamin' in Massachusetts...:)

I just posted about cloth napkins on my blog. I shared an idea about transforming inexpensive dishtowels into the perfect outdoor entertaining accessory. If you get a chance--check it out.
I always enjoy your posts--thanks for sharing.

Do you think down the road you might wish you had them for your new shop? If you have a tea event or bridal shower they could really come in handy.
Best,

Oh one more thing I forgot to add. We have a really nice herb shop here in an old house. They use old linens to dry your hands in the restroom rather than paper. It looks charming and very green at the same time.
