I still have so much work to do on the outside of my cottage. In a perfect world, I would have cute black shutters on the windows and shrubs in front of the house. Oh, and a meandering walkway going up to my front door from the sidewalk, with a picket fence along the sidewalk.(Can'tcha just picture it?!) For now, seasonal decor will have to do the job of sprucing up the outside.
I got the last of my harvest decorations out yesterday after work. Before you comment...Yes, I do think I went a whole lot little overboard on the pumpkins. And the sunflowers.
Anyway.
I still haven't quite finished the details on my thrifted wagon (I want to rust the wheels and add a little banner) on the porch, but I hope to get it done this weekend. Then, I just may go price some shutters at Home Depot.
Oh, I just love autumn!
(Psst! Check out my post on the HomeGoods Openhouse Blog for more harvest time ideas.)

It looks nice, Tracey.
I want a picket fence, too. That is something I have put off for a few years.
I like the idea of rusting the wagon wheels.
No, you didn't go overboard on the pumpkins! I like it. That is why I regret not planting pumpkins this year. You can't get enough Pumpkins!!!! Well, maybe that is possible.....maybe not.

Your cottage looks darling! Can one really have too many pumpkins? I think not! Fall is my favorite time of year for decorating. You've inspired me to get going on my own little house!

That look awesome.....I want to add window planters to my home.....are they hard to do? I had pictured your chair in the backyard....it is funny what we "see" in our minds and then the real picture shatters that thought....like when you talk to someone on the phone or internet first and then you see them in person.
Thanks for sharing!!!

Tracey, it looks AMAZING! I so wish I had window boxes on my house. Love the sunflowers and pumpkins and well - your entire set up. The wagon is already darling, can't wait to see what more you can do with it. Thanks for always inspiring!

What a happy cottage to come home to. The people across the street must be thrilled to look out the window and see all your charming details. Too bad you don't live close to here. Last weekend I happened to find a place that has tons of old wooden shutters dirt cheap. Thanks for the ideas about the soup! I love Trader Joe's but I've never tried the soup. I'm jotting it down on my Trader Joe list now.
Best,
Kathy

Your cottage looks so inviting, and yes I can picture the shutters, the picket fence, the walkway, and Mrs Cleaver standing on the porch in her apron.lol It really is delightful the way it is, I do enjoy your blog so much.

Tracey ~ I think your cottage looks amazing! You have such creative ideas and I don't think AT ALL that you went overboard with the pumpkins and sunflowers!
Can't wait to see more decor!

Wow! I think your place looks adorable! So ready for Autumn here too but I haven't gotten the decorations out to spruce it up yet. Plan to do that today - have to let the kids help. Should be a blast after school!
Loved your post on Homegoods! Wish we had a Trader Joes here. But I will be using the croutons recipe on homemade stuff - so easy and sounds so delish!

Oh Tracey - you can never have too many pumpkins for fall!! And they really do add a punch of color.
Your dear sweet cottage looks so loved and cherished. Thanks for the motivation to get outside and start loving my own homes :)
Much love and many hugs,
Gen

Black shutters would be lovely, but I'd go for the shrubs first because fall is definitely the best time to buy and plant them. You'll find them at home depot and other nurseries for dirt cheap and if you plant them now they'll have time to get established for spring bloom. Okay, can you tell I love to garden?

Tracy,
Never too many pumpkins or sunflowers. I love the shelves under your windows to hold the flower boxes. They must make it much easier to change things out seasonally. Great post about the croutons too.

Love the fall decorations. My kidlets and I are headed out to get some pumpkins and mumms today. I think shutters is a fabulous idea! have you checked the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store? They might have some you could recycle for your house, maybe????

Tracey, where pumpkins are concerned, the more the merrier. Think pumpkin patch.
Your decorations and your house look cute!
I like the idea of black shutters. That would be the perfect touch.
Good work!

Despite 80 degree weather, I *AM* putting up my outdoor decorations today! It's October, for crying out loud! So, thanks for the inspiration, Tracey! (as always!) :-)
We are replacing our shutters on the house and I was pleasantly surprised at the cost of the new ones. Good luck! Can't wait to see all your other touches, although it looks mah-velous already!

Looks great! Just curious, as I can't make out all the little details, is everything rain-proof? I've been trying to find things I decorate with outside that don't cost an arm and a leg and are water-proof.

The place is looking good! Can't wait to see pictures of Halloween Night!

It looks perfect! I love the pumpkins and sunflowers! They really bring alot of happy color to everything. Gee, all I have so far is a wreath on the front door!

I think your cottage is lovely without the shutters and picket fence. After you add them your cottage will have to be discribed as "exceptionally lovely." I enjoy your blog so very much--I read it everyday.

I don't think it looks like you've gone overboard at all-I think it looks great.

I don't think you overdid the pumpkins and sunflowers. It looks perfect and balanced.
I would love to see your house with the black shutters. We put some do it yourself black iron fencing in our front yard and the price wasn't bad. You find it at Lowes. You connect the panels by pounding in a metal stake. You could spray paint the panels white.
It's here . . .

You have a really pretty house. I rather liked the sunflowers and pumpkins. I don't think anything was overdone.

so so pretty, and harvesty-feeling!! i see that you may be shutter-shopping, and just wanted to say that we ended up getting a better price at Lowes than Home Depot, at least in Dallas. Just in case you have access to both!

Your place is just lovely. What do you use on the grass to make it so green and lush looking?
