It's a busy week, or more accurately, a busy month for me, with a craft fair, a bridal expo and the Tumbleweed Cotillion all within the next 5 weeks. I wanted to show you one of the little banners I am working on (for my booth at Junkees, and the McQueen Craft fair coming up on the 17th of October!)
What do you think? Do you like the purple ribbon, (It is darker than it appears in the photo) or should I go with a mini black and white check? Hmmm...that's more my style, but I was trying something new, and I am not at all sure I like it...or maybe the ribbon simply needs to be wider? (Am I over thinking all of this?)

love this little vignette, as always I come here and feel better...after a particularly horrible day today which put me in a mood where you know it just all seems to so not right, I thought, hmmm now what blogs do I love to go visit that give me some inspiration? of course here...
I can see where you are going with the purple and like it but I think the black and white check would be much more up my street - I'm loving a vintagey/plain colours twist to Halloween
good luck with all the hard work this month

Love it, want it, threw a fit...got it! I mean...made myself one.
Seriously...that is SO adorable. I think the width of ribbon is just right, but I can so envison the black and white check...perfect! But then I'm just one little person in the corner of the world. : )

I like the purple ribbon but am curious about the black and white check. I would probably like it too! I love your banners! I am hosting a youth get-together on Halloween but because it is a church group I have to keep the "Halloween theme" toned down. I think a banner like that would work nicely. Thanks for all your wonderful ideas!

Hi Tracey, I think if you want the purple, perhaps a wider ribbon (not by much) and maybe a darker purple. I do think the black and white check would be a perfect fit, though. As always, I just love your site.

what a cute idea , I like the purple , it's different it stands out.
Posted by: sharon | September 30, 2008 at 05:12 AM
Both options are cute. Why not do a few in each the purple and black and white check? How do you think it would look using black cheese cloth cut in long strips? Some people go for the rustic look at Halloween. I'm trying to think of all the angles here.
Best,
Kathy

Hi Tracey!! I say go with your gut girl....you are a busy little bee! xxoo, Dawn

Hi Tracey!
I think the check would be better. The purple is rather bright and it was the first thing I saw in the picture; I think we should see the letters on your banner first. Maybe if there was a little purple on the pennants, it wouldn't stand out as much. I love everything you do, so whatever you choose will be great regardless :o)

I think purple definitely has it's part in Halloween...but a richer, darker almost jewel tone purple! Either one will look wonderful...but it's the unexpected that brings people back to see what's coming next. :)

I don't like the purple ... I think an orange and black combo would be good ...
Posted by: Karyn | September 30, 2008 at 05:57 AM
Maybe a wider darker purple ribbon?? I think purple is the uncelebreated Halloween color!

Tracey,
I see where you're going with the purple, but I'm thinking you ought to at least try the check to see how it works since this is bothering you. I love the lettering and graphics on the flags of the banner. I think that needs to be played up, and the purple tends to grab center stage. I think the black and white might tie in better to the banner's graphics. You can't go wrong with that banner with any color ribbon because the whole concept is cute as can be.
I tried to email you about possibly buying one of your kits you had for sale some time back (wedding flags), but I'm not sure how to get one online or even if they're still available. When things settle down for you, can you email me with the info?
Thanks loads,
Sheila

Love the purple...wider might look cute too! Maybe do it both ways???

I LOVE purple with orange and black. But you might try a larger ribbon to see what it looks like. It may give it more Umphhh.

I think the purple looks great but I'm sure the black and white would look just as good...I'm no help!

hi! are you making more than one banner? how about a purple one, a black and white check one and i'd put a lime green ribbon on mine! if you did several, then people could have a choice. cute, cute idea! love it!

Love the purple. If you are going to make them available to order online, let us know!

I love this photo! Where did you get those fabulous ceramic pumpkins, I'd like to know?
I love the addition of the purple because it gives you the chance to add some purple into your vingette behind the banner.
Black and white would look super too and keep the theme more monochromatic.
Love your work.....gotta check out more of the blogs you have listed on your bog. Looks like you've found a lot of good ones!

Love the spider and bat touches on each end of the banner....but DEFINITELY the black and white check ribbon. Just my humble opinion.

Your blog is so inspiring! I made a banner like yours for my fireplace mantle except it says Trick or Treat. It was so easy, thrifty, fun to do, and really dressed up my Halloween theme! Thanks for what you do!!

I think I prefer the black and white check. Though, good for you for branching out and trying something new! :)

I like the purple, but you go with whatever makes you happy. You have such a talent for these things. I can come up with the ideas of things like you do, but it just doesn't come out through my fingertips as well. YOu're my hero.

I personally like purple and it is the Fall color this year. Go with a darker purple and it would look great! Not to mention, a little of the unexpected too.
Good luck on your decision.

I love purple and orange together. I did a purple and orange Thanksgiving dinner once for about 100 people. It was beautiful!

You have great instincts! Wider purple or the black & white check would be just the thing!
You've inspired me to go unpack my handmade ceramic pumpkins.

I like the purple, but I'd love to see both choices side-by-side to decide which I like best!
It's a beautiful banner!

I love your blog. You have darling ideas. I think it would be cute to layer the ribbons. Then you have a little purple and a little black and white check. JMHO. :-)
Posted by: Lexi | September 30, 2008 at 05:40 PM
I think purple is a great contrast to the typical orange & black, but perhaps a darker purple than you have there. And maybe not ribbon, but raffia instead, which is more outdoorsy-rustic than ribbon. However you do it, the banner looks great!

i like to see purple with the 'lime' (?) green color that's used at halloween. (or is it more a flourescent green??) anyway...i'd prefer the black check on this banner. agree that the purple ribbon might be too thin. it's VERY CUTE, though! LOVE your ideas for your home. black shutters on tan looks very nice...in my eyes. i often see that done here in CT and am drawn to that color scheme. plod on! lindy

This is just me, but I've never been one to love purple as a Halloween color. For me it's just black and white - I can tolerate a little orange here and there, but I'd go with the b/w check.

I want to make one of those sweet little banners.....but directions are needed...please.....thanks...Carol (This site is addictive.... just like chocolate cheesecake !)
