Are you a Blogher?
See those girls up there? They started it. Blogher I mean. Have you heard of Blogher? I've seen their logo on blog rolls and I was curious. I checked them out. Hmmm, cool idea. I love the way so many women take charge and come up with an idea and then run with it. Amazing.
Anyway.
It's a network spot for women bloggers to gather and grow. Share ideas and connect. So, I am wanting to know... are you a Blogher? What's your take on the group? Is more for just younger mommy blogger types, or for everyone? I'm thinking it's something I could learn from.
I'm impressed with their numbers of members, and the site in general. Oh, and it turns out that they have a conference coming up in San Francisco this July. The agenda sounds pretty interesting to me. (In fact, they are even having a contest for us to nominate our favorite Blogher's and the grand prize is an all expense paid trip to the big convention in San Francisico. Wow.)
I'm currently a memebr of ZNE and Women Take Wing. Now I'm wondering what other groups are out there that I have somehow missed....tell me what groups you're involved with, which ones you like, and maybe which ones you're not so crazy about. I really want to know.
Blog Her is the premiere blogging group for women, at least for most mom blogs. I would say it exists to provide advertising--in addition to support, networking, etc.
That said, I am not an advertising member of Blog Her, though it's impossible to ignore its presence on other blogs.
Other than the informative talks and marketing opportunities, I worry that the conference--and the blogging networking that results--comes across as clique-y and high school.
But that's only from afar.

I too have seen this on many blogs I read and checked it out. They said they weren't accepting new bloggers for "a long time". This was in January, maybe that "long time" is over?
I would think your blog would be perfect for this, just what they are looking for!

Maybe it's just me but, it seems to take something that is entertaining and turning it into one more chore. I'm not really interested in making something that is fun into something that becomes too intense. I have that in my real life. That conference just comes across to me as people that love the sound of their own voice. Maybe I'm in a grouchy mood..ya think?
Best,
Kathy

I use BlogHer for advertising purposes on my site. I've been really happy with the results. I'm making more with them than I did with Google ads. I sent you an email with more details.

I didn't realize you could make money through the ads, although I should have guessed, look at Dooce. Honestly, I don't even notice the ads. LOL (And Cindy - I read your blog!)
Anyhoo, I don't belong to any *groups*. My life is busy enough with my job (not quite full time), family, hobbies, etc. I do volunteer a bit. That is important to me, and of course, family time is a priority. I'm at the point in my life where I'm looking to have a bit more time to relax and enjoy than adding more activities. But that's just me and my life. I'm a big homebody LOL.

I just don't have it in me to maintain a blog. Between mornings at the gym or working in my son's classroom, keeping up with my daughter's work schedule, my son's baseball schedule, etc. I don't have the time or energy.
Besides, I've just started scrapbooking with a couple friends and I've found a new passion...I'm hooked.

I would love to go to the conferences, but really couldn't justify the cost right now or the time my hubby would have to take off of work.
We are part of the RGM network and are very happy with it. It is a great company to be part of and I have served on their advisory board for a year now so I feel like I am part of that organization.
Have a great day!
