WWJD?

Thank_you_jesus    I don't mean to sound sacrilegious with my title,  I'm just wondering.
There weren't many yard sales today that were in our "area" (three to be exact) so it didn't take long, but, oh baby, were they worth the trip. The first stop was right around the block from my cottage and I snagged a silver plate gravy boat and a picture of Jesus. Not just any picture of Jesus, mind you. It's the exact picture that I had hanging in my room when I was a little girl, except mine was a little bit smaller and was in a gold plastic frame. Uh huh.
I think it was from one of those "Home Interiors" parties in the early sixties, or maybe it was a church fund raiser. At any rate my Mom apparently bought it. I remember that it hung on the left side of the bedroom window with the made-by-Mom pink with giant white polka dot curtains. The curtains matched my coverlet on my twin sized bed. As I recall, I really loved that whole ensemble. Girly, but hip at the same time, you know?

*sigh* It's funny how things like that can remind you of all kinds of trivial, but oh, so warm and fuzzy memories from way back when, isn't it?

Anyway.

When I went to pay I told the woman having the sale my little story about how it brought back memories of my childhood and such and she said she actually felt "weird" putting a Jesus picture in the yard sale. She thought it might be considered offensive to re-sell Jesus like that. (The truth be told, I think I made her feel better about selling him by sharing my little story)
What I didn't tell her, because I thought it, might in turn, offend her, was that I bought the Jesus picture for the fabulous frame. Really. It's going to be incredible when I get it all painted and antiqued. Then, I will add a chalkboard to the center of it and it will be all set for the Tumbleweed Cotillion.

*sigh* Now, if I can just figure out what to do with the picture of Jesus inside the frame. Somehow, it just feels kind of "weird" to give it away.

It is a fabulous frame.
Mmm.... what to do with Jesus!!!!
Alison

don't feel bad about the picture Tracy, Jesus proberly dosen't look like that anyhow, he proberly is much more handsome.

What about this, I'm sure you have a stash of old frames or things that you've been wanting to donate to the Salvation Army or another charity, place the print in a more simple frame and donate your items. Someone may love to buy it!! xxoo, Dawn

I knew I could count on you Dawn, to have the perfect solution!
Thanks!
Tracey

I would frame it and bring it to a nearby hospital as it may be just what they need to remember that Jesus is with them when they are ill or feel alone. You may change someone's spirits in a moment of dispair. When I am sad or feel alone I open my bible and always find hope. You will feel better about knowing that you "shared" Jesus with someone who needs Him instead of "throwing" Him away.

We had 3 yard sales in our area today during which it was snowing!! You were way more lucky. Ahh, what a beautiful picture of Jesus, I think he could be re-framed in a different frame and given to a local charity maybe, if you don't want to keep Him. :)

Oh my gosh funny post..this brings back memories. When I was a kid our home was a big old precivil war home on the east coast. Right out the back door was this darling chicken coop that was cleaned up and my sisters and I used as our playhouse. I had that exact same picture hanging in the chicken coop. Shortly after we moved I remembered I FORGOT the Jesus picture. Yes, I went back and broke into the chicken coop to..I guess..steal the Jesus picture. I was sure Jesus would understand ha ha. You have to keep this print. Your future grandchildren will see a bit of your childhood. It's dollar value is little it's history is much.
Best,
Kathy

What I want to know is what will you do with the windows? I have a friend who gave me a nice window with three panes in it. Also, we will replace all our wood windows in our new/old house from the 1950's and I am wondering what to do with them. I certainly can't keep them all, and i know a good recycle place that will take them. I was just wondering what cool reuse thing I can do with one or two or three. Unfortunately they are not that interesting with many panes, just one.
Susan

Maybe you could hang Jesus on the left side of your bedroom window...hum....just a thought.

I have creepy feelings when I see Pinky and Blue Boy pictures. I dont know if thats their real names, but thats what we called them. Their eyes seemed to follow you. Not the pics I wanted in my room when I was 7. Funny the things that trigger our memories.

Please don't trash the picture of Jesus!! Donate it, or drop it off at a church!! Someone can use it :)

Blessings,

Sher

Tracey-
As a fellow frame lover, I do appreciate your vision for the beautiful frame. Consider this your "Agony at the Garage Sale"...but this print is one of the Sorrowful mysteries that Catholics meditate on the rosary...called the "Agony in the Garden". It is a beautiful print that my mom had hanging in our living room and it gives me fond memories also. I couldn't see you tossing it either. I like Dawn's suggestion too.

Had to laugh because I did the EXACT same thing recently! Bought a framed picture of Jesus at a rummage sale JUST for the frame. I took the Jesus picture (unframed) and put it for sale at a recent show.

I am sooo glad you posted about this. I struggle nearly every week because I find amazing religious stuff (ephemera, prints, etc.). I am not religious, but I recognize that many peopl are and would want these items. Personally, I believe Jesus wouldn't have any problem with repurposing it. It's not like you're trashing it.

I look at it this way: I find good religious stuff, and sell it. My buyers wouldn't have found it otherwise!

You've inspired me for a new post. Thanks; whatever you do is all good. XOX

Oh....I could just FEEL where this was going! I too was drooling over the frame and thinking...uh....what do do with the picture.....and YES...I'd have a hard time throwing it away! Donate it in your next box of things to your local thrift store....no longer your problem!

I had that picture of Jesus hanging in my room when I was little, too! Oh, the memories!

Hi Tracey,
This could mean.. Jesus is always with you?? I definitely would not 'throw Him out', but all of the others had great ideas for repurposing. I also feel kinda creepy when I find an American flag that I can't use..
JOY!

I think I would find a little gold, plastic frame for it (or a nicer one) and pass it on to someone that it would be special to.
By the way, do you know Jesus?

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”(that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 10:8-10 (New King James Version)

Good finds!

Goodness~ I had the same dilemma~ I had a Jesus needlepoint~ well you know I make pillows with my needlepoints and I simlpy could not make a Jesus tuffet~ so I gave Jesus to someone who needed Him that day! Bless your sense of humor~ it is a gift. oxox~S
