So many of you have asked about the chair in my daughter's cottage that I thought I'd better share it with you. I used the same technique as always...like in Furniture re-do 101, except the paint color is a darker wheat for the base color. (Sorry, I don't have the Behr recipe, so just pick one you like!)
I found 4 of these chairs on craigslist well over a year ago. They were so cute, but they are reproductions, not antiques and a couple of them were scuffed up.
I primed one, then painted it a light yellow-ish wheat color. After that, I glazed the chair frame in a tobacco color and slid some fabric I had over the cushion to get an idea of how we'd like it.
The newest maid-of-honor wasn't sure of what colorway she wanted to go, so the chairs have been there, in transition. As her cottage has taken shape, we have chosen a color palate at last. We are set to paint all 4 chairs black, along with the drop leaf round kitchen table very soon, and add new cushion fabric...oh yes, you know I'll be sharing the results with you!

I just love how it looks in the first picture! I am sure it will be wonderful in black, too. Rosie :-)

I'm sure they'll look great black, too! I love how you create and recreate, and recreate again if it doesn't suit!

Oh I love the way black just kind of grounds a room. My kitchen chairs, and I've had a couple different styles, have always been painted black. I'm sure the results will be lovely.

Thanks Tracey for the "how to". I always say black is such a classic color for furniture....my kitchen chairs are black (for now anyway). We picked them up at auction (very cheap)...they were a silver color, I painted them black and covered the cushion in a pretty black/red rooster fabric. BTW, I got my french door hung last weekend in my kitchen, hubby having problems with the knob I picked out, but once that gets fixed, I'll post pics of how it looks! Thanks for ALL your great ideas - Judy

Oh! My heart lurched when I saw those chairs here yesterday...my mama had 6 exactly like that for years...she even "antiqued" hers to look just like yours
probably in the early 70's. They went in her eatate sale in Portland 18 months ago.
For a moment there, I though....could this
be????? But no. Memories.........V.

O my goodness. I have 6 similar chairs, found in the back room of an antique/junque store! I bought them several years ago and painted them to use around our farmhouse table. I now use 4 of them around the round table on our back porch and just recently moved one into our guest room after making the room over. My plan, when the weather warms, is to paint them again and redo the seats. I love the finish on your chair!

Hi Tracey,
I have the same chair. I have 4 different chairs around my kitchen table, and that is one of them. I painted mine a buttery yellow color. I love the way yours turned out.

Tracey;
I also have those same chairs (part of a dining room suite) and refinshed the entire set last year. The "afters" are posted on my blog from last year.
Just started reading your blog in the past few months and it has inspired me to get "back on line". Thanks for all of your wonderful postings... I enjoy checking in!

Judging by recent comments, those chairs were VERY popular at one point. I just finished my office with one of those (and another similar) and my dining room makeover has 4!
Take a look when you get a chance... I check in with you every day and enjoy your beautiful, creativness!

I had to ckeck this out when I saw that you wrote that you have a thing for chairs. I do too!!not sure why either. I love to refinsh these old chair with vintage fabric and maybe a little paint or stain. I have a little chair almost identical to the one you have pictured. I too restained(not painted) it and covered it with a beautiful"new to me"vintage fabric. Would love to share ideas :)
