It's inspiration Friday again, and I am sharing old magazine pictures of outdoor spaces today. We have been having absolutely amazing weather here in northern Nevada, and all I can think about is my backyard, and what I want to do out there. Lucky, lucky me. My backyard has three huge trees and a very large patio, and last but most certainly not least, eleven rosebushes arranged in the most perfect spots near my patio. Needless to say I am thrilled. I haven't ever had a rose garden before, and I am so excited to watch them grow and bloom. So far the only one that has bloomed has beautiful bright pink roses. Breathtaking.
That's where it ends. I love the yard, love the roses, but what to do with the patio; well ,that is a dilemma. (don'tcha love the warm feeling of the above pictured outdoor living room?)
I moved here, suddenly single, and no longer have a BBQ, (although I got a small George Foreman, does that count?) and no BBQ fairy in sight to bring me a new one. I did find a patio table and 4 chairs at a yard sale a few weeks back, so I am happy to have a place to sit and enjoy the beauty of the roses and the trees, but I want more.
I want an outdoor living space.I want the feel of an English cottage garden. I want personality. I just am not quite sure yet what level of formality. These pictures inspire me, and my taste for my cottage backyard lies someplace in the middle of the feel of all of these pictures.... and I am looking forward to watching it all unfold this summer.

I love the center one - wouldn't it be nice to have an outdoor room? Unfortunately in NE ohio I would only get to enjoy it about a 1/3 of the year, and what to do with all that extra furniture???

Love them all! I sure wish I had a space like that. By the way, my Inspiration Friday post is very similar to yours!

Thanks for your comments on my blog. I love all the outdoor spaces you show and I keep working on my own backyard in hopes that it will one day be an extension of the house - a true "garden room." Little by little.

Beautiful pictures. I am working on getting that feel in my backyard too.
I'm sure you can do it.
Have a great weekend outdoors.

Love these...the last one with the cobblestones with grass growing between is my favorite. My backyard is currently consumed by a swingset, and my back porch by a large frog-shaped sandbox. Beautiful in a different way I suppose. Aren't you lucky to have roses!

Hi Tracey, thank you for stopping by the back porch and your great comment.
I had fun reading through your blog archives, this morning. When I came upon the photo of your daughter as a child, I said to J...look at this photo! Your daughter and my 2 year old grandaughter, Gabi, have a bit of a resemblance, so cute!!
I love to go junking.
My oldest daughter is getting married this year.
J called our oldest grandaughter, Toots, when she was little, pronounced like Tootsie Roll.
I suddenly "started over" at the age of 40 after over 20 years of marriage.
Look at all we have in common and then some. I'm adding you to my blog list. So I won't forget where you are!
Thanks so much for a wonderful blog.

I really enjoyed your pictures. Love the cottage look of the first picture...the picket-fenced garden is a favorite of mine.

Outdoor spaces are just as important as the inside ones to so many of us.
I have no doubt when you put your talents to work out there it will be every bit as beautiful as those pictures. Yeah, money and time can be an issue, but I know with what you are starting with, you will have a fabulous space.
